Opportunity to drive Cardiff’s Good Food Movement

Food Cardiff is looking for new volunteer board members. Come and join us!

Food Cardiff believes that food should be good for people, good for the place we live, and good for our planet – as well as being affordable and tasty. Good food creates strong, healthy communities. The way it’s produced respects people, the natural environment and the way it’s sold supports the local economy.

Do you want to help shape and influence Cardiff’s food system? Passionate about engaging with people, communities and organisations across the whole of Cardiff, encouraging them to become a part of the food future of the capital? If so, perhaps you’d be interested in becoming a voluntary board member of Food Cardiff?

2026 sees Food Cardiff embark on the next step of its journey since achieving its Gold Sustainable Food Places status. In order to accomplish this, we need a varied, diverse and inspiring group of people to help continue to shape and further develop our work to change our local food system.

The Food Cardiff Strategy Board will focus on the partnership’s strategic direction, offering guidance on how to further develop and enhance our success. The Strategy Board discussions will complement the existing Food Cardiff network where partners can exchange and share ideas and knowledge as well as connecting with a wide range of people and organisations working within the food space in Cardiff. Who we are looking for

We are looking for people with experience (through work, volunteering, or life) of food issues and solutions in Cardiff. In particular, we are looking for expertise in the following areas to complement our existing board members:

  • Community food projects (e.g. food growing, pantries, lunch clubs etc)
  • Running a food business in the city (e.g. retailers, hospitality, caterers etc)
  • Farming/growing/production of climate and nature friendly food

We are keen that the strategy board reflects the full breadth of people in Cardiff. No previous Board experience is necessary and we will endeavour to support Strategy Board members to participate fully in a way that suits you, considering your preferred language, your cultural requirements, any accessibility requirements as well as the need to be flexible in order to consider caring needs.

Benefits of joining the board

  • Chance to improve Cardiff’s local food system
  • Opportunities to make strategic decisions and gain new skills
  • Build relationships with a passionate group of people involved in food in Cardiff

Commitment

We would like Strategy Board members to commit initially to a 12-month term (with option to extend). In order to craft the next strategy and action plan, for the rest of 2026 Strategy Board meetings will be held every 6 weeks.

After which time the Strategy Board will review frequency, aiming for quarterly meetings including one strategy day per year. Board members will collectively agree dates and times.
