‘Cardiff Good Food Conversations’ are a much-needed opportunity for Cardiff citizens to talk about what they really want from food.
Food is at the centre of some of the biggest challenges we face. Headlines about food security, diet-related ill health, the impact on nature and climate of food production, food bank usage (and more) dominate the media and are part of our daily discourse.
Food Cardiff has been addressing these challenges, with an ambitious strategy to become the most sustainable food place in the UK. But we know there is more to do.
Cardiff Good Food Conversations aim to change this and provide a well-evidenced view of what citizens really think about food – exploring how Cardiff residents understand the complexities of the issue and the necessity for trade-offs.
To do this we want to work with groups and organisations to engage local communities in conversations.
The Cardiff Good Food Conversations are part of a national programme called the Food Conversation, run by the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission
Why take part?
- Be part of a UK-wide conversation about food that is taking place on an unprecedented scale
- Make connections, build relationships and hear the views of people in your community
- Contribute to a desperately needed push for food system change
- Explore how to become more active in shaping the future of food
What we need from groups:
- To organise venue and catering for a half-day (4 hour) session for 10-15 attendees at a suitable date from 20 February – 17 March
- To advertise and promote the event to your community
- To manage the registration process and any payment for attendees
- We will ask participants to think of an object that represents what food in your community means to you. This object could be something personal that directly connects you to your community, or it could be something that symbolises a cause or issue that is important to you.
What Food Cardiff will provide:
- £500 for in person meetings per organisation to cover room hire, catering, creche and a payment to attendees. We would suggest £20 voucher per attendee, then £200 for catering and room hire, but you may want to adapt that for your local community (e.g. you may feel the need to provide a creche)
- We can also provide a reduced rate per organisation for an online Food Conversation
- We deliver and facilitate the four-hour Food Conversation
- We will offer attendees the chance to attend follow-up food leadership training to develop their skills
- Your organisation and attendees will also be invited to a celebration event in April
- We can provide editable promotional materials e.g. flyers etc.
