It’s great news that here in Cardiff, our food waste is collected by the council on a weekly basis. But despite this, almost a quarter of our ‘general rubbish’ is contaminated with food products which should have gone into a food waste caddy.
With people now cooking and consuming more food at home, it’s more important than ever to make sure all of our food waste goes into a caddy, ready for collection.
That’s because kerbside food waste which is collected by the council is sent to an anaerobic digestion facility, where it is turned into renewable energy to power homes and communities.
So for unavoidable food waste at home, make sure you dispose of it sustainably, by using your brown food caddy.
